Lu Bentley’s first medium was Graphite, since paper and pencil were readily available. After she
was sent an oil set on the adventure of color as a gift Lu spent time with pastels, mostly in
portraits, and then onto watercolors. For the past several years, Acrylics have been Lu Bentley’s
preferred means of expression. She considers herself a contemporary, modern artist because of
her preference for strong shapes, shadows and vibrant colors. This lends a slightly abstract or
surrealistic quality to Lu’s work.
Lu Bentley says, “I love the bright, clear, southern sunshine that creates the shadows which
are used in my paintings. It is compelling to paint these shadows in so many ways, with different
colors, shapes and sizes. Thoughtful composition and strong design components permit the
successful contrast of realistic elements against abstract elements. It is my habit
to use a warm palette with cool accents. When my paintings begin to glow and make me smile, I
know I am on the right track.” Studio: 843-607-3463 www.LuBentley.com Studio 151 Fine Art
